Determining the Cost of Film
Determining the cost of your window tinting project is fairly straightforward, though it’s important to understand that there are a variety of factors that have to be taken into consideration. The following information is meant to serve as a brief guide to help answer common questions about window tint pricing as well as what to expect for the total expense of installation.

Factors to Consider
Before determining the cost of your install, it’s first important to identify your goals for your project so you know what type and style of film you’ll need. Here are some of the factors you may want to take into consideration:
Glare: Do you often find yourself squinting or shutting the curtains in order to see past the glare on your TV or computer screen?
Fading: Is your home or office equipped with furniture or fading that could potentially suffer damage from heat or uv rays?
Safety: Do you have concerns about the safety or security of your building, family, or employees?
Indoor comfort: Is is often too hot or too cold inside your building?
Energy cost: Do you feel like your utility bill is unusually high?
Aesthetics: Is the appearance or privacy of your building a priority for you?

Variables that Affect Film Pricing
There are many factors that go into calculating the cost of a window film install. Some of these variables include:

Cost of manufacture: While lower quality films are cheaper to manufacture and therefore more affordable, they’re also much less effective. A high-quality film may be slightly more expensive, but can save costs in the long run.
Project size and complexity: If a project is difficult to install or requires special equipment, it may be more expensive. Larger projects can also be more costly, but are sometimes able to receive a discounted rate.
Quality of service and warranty: When determining the cost of an install, it’s also important to take the quality of the service into consideration. A smaller company may charge less, but they may also be less experienced. A more established contractor will also likely include a warranty with their services.

General Cost Estimate
The following information can be used to determine the general cost of a certain type or style of film. Please note that actual cost may vary per project.
Spectrally selective: Spectrally selective films only allow certain spectrums of light to enter your windows. This factor allows the interior to stay bright and well lit without letting in heat and uv rays. These films typically range from $9-18/sq foot.
Low-E: Low-E films offer a year round solution for improving building comfort and energy efficiency. They’re best for dual climate regions in which heat may be beneficial during the winter but less desirable during the summer. These films usually start at $20/sq ft.
Safety & security: Safety and security films protect buildings and occupants by mitigating damage from broken glass and preventing theft, vandalism, and intrusion These films range from $8-16/sq ft. Security attachment systems cost an extra $2-5/LFT.
Bullet resistant: Bullet resistant window systems alter glass at the molecular level to make it stronger and more resistant to shattering upon encountering ballistic impact or extreme weather. This product averages around $125/sq ft.
Decorative or frosted film: Decorative or frosted film can be used for privacy, branding, decoration, or branding. Decorative films range from $6-12/sq ft.

The “Real” Cost of Window Film
Want to know the real cost of window film? Here’s an explanation from one of the leading experts in the industry, our founder and owner, Martin Faith:

“I got a call from an existing client asking us to come out and install some more of our “Free window film” I was confused but he insisted that we did the west side of the house and he got it for free and he sounded really happy. After an awkward silence on my end he eventually he said. “When Mike came to my home in 2012 I asked him how much I could save on my energy bills. He told me most people pay the film back in 3-5 years. So I got out my old bills for the previous 12 months and wrote down how much I spent each month. Then for the past 3 years or so I’ve been keeping track of how much I save each month and as of last month I have now saved the same amount as I paid you guys for the film. So there you have it. The next time someone asks me how much does window film cost all I have to say is “It’s Free!”
